Chairman's Column

A successful year for Lighting Council

As you receive this edition of Illuminations, we shall have completed our Annual General Meeting, a timely occasion to reflect on our past year.
Again, I want to thank our Directors for their contributions to the work of Lighting Council Australia. They work tirelessly and serve on an honorary basis. In addition to our regular work on behalf of members, and the work of the sub-industry groups, a special initiative Lighting Council took in 2019 was to hold seminars in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide dealing with the new lighting provisions under the National Construction Code. We were fortunate to have a team of highly-skilled presenters who went into the impact of the changes and outlined the best methods for lighting companies, designers and electrical contractors to operate within the changes. Each seminar was a sell-out and I was delighted to see the level of interest in this initiative. The event was funded by Lighting Council and there was no charge to attendees. I was especially grateful to member companies who supplied presenters as well as David Crossley from the Secretariat and Steve Brown of IALD who has been a great ally for Lighting Council in a range of matters. Many members tell me that the current trading environment is tougher than usual for their businesses. With flat activity, and issues such as banks taking a tougher line on providing finance, now is the time to be even more innovative to get through this period. Lighting Council Australia, you can be assured, will continue to work on your behalf to minimise you having to deal with unnecessarily burdensome and costly government regulation; will continue our programs to locate and take action on non-compliant products, and ensure we continue to lift the profile of quality lighting products and solutions to stakeholders. As always, if we can assist with any matters, please do not hesitate to contact the Secretariat. Tony Todaro
