Lighting Council meet with Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management
Lighting Council Australia took the opportunity to reaffirm relationships with MPs, Senators and Ministers via congratulatory letters and during meetings in the first sitting week of parliament since the May election.  Many MPs and Ministers have acknowledged Lighting Council Australia in their responses and look forward to our feedback and policy input.  A meeting with the Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management, the Hon Trevor Evans MP proved positive with the Member for Brisbane being briefed on LCA’s environmental programs, Exitcycle and Fluorocycle. LCA Public Affairs and Environmental Manager Brodie Easton briefed the Assistant Minister on the nation's low recycling rates for toxic end-of-life lighting products and the significant role in which Fluorocycle and Exitcycle have contributed in increasing these numbers. The Assistant Minister supports industry led schemes such as Exitcycle and Fluorocycle and commended LCA for its efforts thus far. LCA will await outcomes of the Product Stewardship review currently underway. Lighting Council Australia is advocating for  increased Government support so that our existing successful schemes can be further increased in scale and capacity.
